Christmas Press Release December 2022

Oswestry Ladies Choir is still rehearsing and performing despite the prevalence of Covid 19.  As we learn to live with many viruses and recover from the many lockdowns, which silenced the nation, Oswestry Ladies Choir has launched enthusiastically into the Christmas Season preparing a Mozart Mass in C for its next concert.  This masterly work, affectionately known as the “Sparrow Mass,” originally composed for a mixed choir, has been arranged by a German musicologist Herbiert Breuer especially for female voices.

This exuberant, joyful Mass by Mozart, which is not at all sombre, has never been performed in Oswestry. The choir conducted by Dawn Jaffray will be accompanied by a small ensemble of musicians, 2 clarinets, Timpani, complete with resident piano accompanist Elizabeth Dobson.

Also in the programme will be a Christmas Cantata “Sing a Song of Christmas”. Come and listen to songs old and new, reflecting the singer’s gift for stirring emotions, retelling the Nativity with beautiful, exciting melodies.  “Sing a Song of Christmas” contains joyful seasonal songs, original music mingling with Traditional Carols in a joyful mix.  This work brings the message of Christmas in an upbeat happy sing, which will have you singing as you leave the concert.

This concert will be held in All Saints Church, Gobowen, on Wednesday 14th December at 7.45pm.

Tickets £8 with free admission for children under 15 years can be obtained from choir members / on the door / or contact 01691 654802.

Refreshments are available after the concert.
