Hello Everyone,
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for pulling off a magnificent concert on Sunday. Even if the words are beginning to fade away I do hope the feeling of achievement and the pleasure of singing wholeheartedly will remain with you for some time. We received some amazing comments e.g. Fantastic, Excellent and “we heard every word” (I like that): “that was your best concert yet” so I hope all the hard work was worth it. There was some beautiful soprano singing in both the Delibes and “The Star Arising”. The altos were unanimous, spot on and the second altos singing the Tenor part brought the rich harmonies which gave texture, colour and warmth. Never have I heard such convincing singing from the choir. This was a different choir! You communicated the text with spirit and enjoyment and that is what it is all about. Not perfection but pure emotional joy. I hope I hear more of that in the future.
You should all be very pleased with yourselves. It was such a hassle securing the music, as it took months to get it and several times I thought about discarding the idea but it was worth it in the end. Thank you all for working so hard on the adapted score. I hope you will agree that a small chamber choir can impress as well as a big chorus!
Thank you to so many people who helped make this concert a success. Please thank your committee for all its hard work in getting the show on the road, also the Front of House team Andy, Michael D, Michael W, Geoff, Ray and Cath for smooth control of the audience. Thanks to Liz, for her marathon at the piano and patience at the rehearsals.
Please enjoy your few weeks off ready to start afresh on 8th January. At the moment there is no date fixed for a summer concert. I cannot tell you yet what the concert will be but it will be secular in keeping with the summer season. If you have any requests please let me know.
We also need to keep recruiting new singers so please tell everyone you meet that you sing with OLC and try to persuade them to give us a try. If we have more singers we will not need to work so hard.
With all the time off you have now you could listen to “Alleluia” sung by Utah State University on You Tube. It is beautiful. Not for us as it is SATB but worth listening to.
Thank you all for your hard work since September and all your lovely singing. It is a pleasure working with you all. Hope you will all be looking forward to new music and If there is anyone who will NOT be returning in January, please let me know ASAP, by return even, as I need exact numbers to order new music.
Have a lovely holiday, A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Thank you everyone, you were GREAT.
Keep si -si-si-singing !!
Dawn
